About Karabali:
Conjunto Karabali is the Bay Area’s newest and hottest Latin dance band, featuring some of the finest talent in the Latin music field. The band is co-led by 2 of the United States’ most renowned percussionists, Mike Spiro and Karl Perazzo, who have joined forces to create a group specifically for the dancer’s enjoyment.
They describe Karabali’s style as “old school” salsa, and they bring to the Bay Area for the first time the traditional NY conjunto sound, popularized by Johnny Pacheco, Conjunto Clasico and Conjunto Libre. This band is about swing and joyful energy, and the dancers can’t wait to hit the floor when Karabali kicks into high gear.
The band boasts a who’s-who of SF Latin music all-stars in its line-up, starting of course with its leaders, Mike and Karl. These two internationally recognized drummers have performed and recorded with almost every major Latin artist of the last 30 years, from Eddie Palmieri to Carlos Santana, from Tito Puente to Celia Cruz

About Tito Garcia:
Ernesto “Tito” Garcia is an optometrist in the predominantly Latino mission district of San Francisco.
I have been playing Latin Music profesionally since 1971. There are an incredible amount of talented musicians just waiting for the opportunity to learn how to play what is known as Modern, Popular Salsa-Mambo music of today.
I created this type of discipline Orquesta in order to provide the General Public an example of what i call Jazz-Influenced, High-Energy Latin Music. We play Salsa in the traditional format of the pioneers of this music and add our own West Coast “Tinge.”
We also dip into our bag of Salsa Tricks to bring back some of the Mambo’s, Cha-Cha-Cha’s and Boleros that this generation missed out on.
We take full advantage of our Multi-Cultural or “International” array of musicians in this area and thus the name of “Internacional.” We vary in size from as many as 16 performing musicians to as small a combo as 4-5 musicians. Depending on our performance necessities.

About Luda and Oliver:

They won the 2001 IDO World Salsa Championship and have competed in DanceSport in Japan and London and are now both professionals.
Although they have had a breaks from each other in the past, they eventually got back together because, ‘it was just such a good partnership’ says Oliver, and, ‘we couldn’t find anybody better than each other’. Luda describes herself as a fiery dancer, which Oliver thinks goes well with his certain suaveness that comes out on the dance floor.

Alonso Brito, The kind of Music that gets under your skin!

Discover the Old Style Cuban Music of
Alonso Brito!
When I hear the music of Alonso Brito, I feel myself transported to an old cafe somewhere in Havana, with the smell of cigars in the air and the heat in the air assisting in the slow grind of Cuban couples dancing to the sultry rhythms. It is how i picture real Latin music to be. You can feel in the song that their is Latin passion behind it. You just can’t fake emotion in songs like this.
“Alonso is like no other contemporary salsa singer - part Mick Jagger, part Caetano Veloso and part Desi Arnaz on acid” - Los Angeles Times
“In the 1950’s America fell in love with the Mambo. It’s 2008 and we are already falling in love with Alonso Brito and his brand of Cuban music, he is really talented, extremely talented” -KPFK Radio
About Alonso Brito:
Born in La Habana, Cuba during the Golden Fifties, Alonso Brito had an idyllic childhood that ran parallel to Hollywood classics of that period. At the age of nine, he was living in Cuba when Fidel Castro’s revolution arose. Political and civil unrest forced him to flee the country, never to return. During a landmark historical period in American history, Alonso arrived in Miami, Florida in September 1960.
Thrust into early adulthood though being barely ten years old, Brito has been witness to events that have formed our country and left an indelible mark in his memory. The short-lived presidency of John F. Kennedy, The Birmingham Riots, The Cuban Missile Crisis, the civil rights movement and the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, manned space travel and the Vietnam War are moments in time that some of us lived while some of us only read about them in books—Alonso Brito has done both and uses it to not only give depth to the life he leads, but volume to the music he shares.
Those wonder years, as well as those of his pre-emmigration childhood are reflected throughout his music. Alonso, or “AB”, along with his dear friend Chris McClure have prepared a style of show that has not been seen since the 1950’s. Nothing in the United States and few similar performers are comparable to the style, culture and substance of the music and performances that AB brought from Cuba to gift us. His journey, his convictions, his spirit and his music have become the epitome of what it is to be Cuban-American.

Salsa Dancing Spy Daniel James
Guilty of Spying for Iran.
An army translator and salsa dance teacher who worked for the head of Nato forces in Afghanistan has been found guilty of spying for Iran.
Cpl Daniel James who worked for General David Richards, recently appointed as the head of the British Army, was found guilty of emailing details of troop movements to a military attaché in the Iranian embassy in Kabul.
James, 45, denied the charge, under the Official Secrets Act, claiming he was trying to improve relations with Iran and was protecting the general with voodoo spells. The jury is still deliberating on two further charges, also denied by James, alleging that he leaked two sensitive situation reports.
James, an Iranian by birth who had changed his name from Esmail Mohammed Beigi Gamasai, sent a series of “coded” emails between November 2 and December 18 2006.
One email told Colonel Mohammed Hossein Heydari that forces were setting up a camp on the Iran-Iraq border near al-Amara and added: “Take care of that side.”
It finished by adding: “Any other work that you may have, I am at your service” and was signed “Esmail the interpreter.”

Rumbaché (formerly Quimbombó) has established themselves as one of the hottest Bay Area salsa bands. Fusing salsa, timba, bomba and whatever else they could find to spicen up the mood, they provide a hard hitting style of playing. And while you can hear them interpreting the classic and contemporary Cuban and Salsa repertoire, they are not shy with their own expression. Their fresh originals make them stand-out in an otherwise cover heavy salsa scene. Under the leadership of percussionist Patricio Angulo, Rumbaché is the voice of youth for San Francisco’s salsa scene, and ignites enthusiasm in dancers and musical connoisseurs alike.

About Gary Flores:
A native of San Francisco, California. Born and raised in the Excelsior District (Outer Mission District). I started playing the Trumpet in 1972 at the age of 19. In 1973, I joined a neighborhood Latin Rock band called Café. In 1974, I joined the great Ritmo 74, which was a very serious and organized band. Ritmo 74 played at all the Big Salsa Shows in the Bay Area featuring the greatest latin bands from New York and Puerto Rico. We performed with Willie Colon with Hector LaVoe, Grand Combo, Bobby Valentine, Ismael Quintana, Ismael Miranda, Eddie Palmieri with Lalo Rodriguez, Papo Lucca and Sonora Poncena, Larry Harlow, Johnny Pacheco,Celia Cruz, Cheo Feliciano and many others. In 1976, I started a new band called Salsa Caliente. In 1982 I moved to playing piano with the group. Salsa Caliente performed together for about twenty years and was considered the best Salsa Group in the Bay Area; unfortunately to my regret, we never recorded. Many great Musicians came through the Salsa Caliente such as Richard Kermode (Janis Joplin, Malo, Santana), and Luis Gasca (Santana, Malo, Maynard Ferguson, Mongo Santamaria Woody Herman and many others.) Many great local musicians came in and out of Salsa Caliente and are successful band leaders of their own now. After Salsa Caliente, I started a latin jazz group called “Caliente 2000″ where I enjoyed the freedom, individuality and creativity of improvising with this group. The musicians are featured which was very refreshing after backing up singers all the time and the group was smaller. I always loved the Great Jazz Musicians who mastered their instruments and improvised so well like Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, and Dexter Gordon to name a few. So I am attempting to following that path, but with a Latin feel. My major musical influences besides the names just mentioned have been Luis Gasca, Luis “Perico” Ortiz, Richard Kermode, Papo Lucca and many more.
